A Soldier has been sentenced to time in jail for his role in an Iowa ATV related theft. According to the South Bend Tribune National Guardsman Albert Cresswell Jr. of Fort Madison, Iowa, was sentenced to 150 days in jail Friday by Judge Michael Dodge. Cresswell received credit for his 49 days already served on each of three counts of receiving and concealing stolen motor vehicles on Oct. 26.

Cresswell, if his sentence is carried out in full, will also spend two years on probation and pay $1,280 in costs and an additional $1,028 in restitution. Cresswell and a co-defendant saw a small trailer carrying an ATV and a snowmobile and decided to steal it by hooking it up their vehicle and driving away.

When state police searched a current residence they also found a stolen go-kart and another stolen flat-bed trailer. In his defense Mr Cresswell had the following to say “I’m sorry, my time in jail has shown me a lot of life paths that I don’t want to take. It’s helped me re-evaluate my life.”

ATV thefts can affect a lot of people, not just the life of the thief. In a separate theft the Honolulu Advertiser is claiming that the Dec 14th overnight theft of one of their Lifeguard ATVs is hindering their ability to effectively protect lives.  The Sunset Beach lifeguard station on the Island of Oahu is missing an ATV that had been double padlocked and secured the night before. They’re asking for help in locating it quickly.
