Hungry Valley OHV

Hungry Valley OHV – Gorman CA
It’s that time of year again and with summer fast approaching if you like to ride you’re already planning a few OHV trips with friends and family. With all of the recent news headlines suggesting the closure of thousands of acres of OHV trails and recreational areas this is just a reminder that not all areas are affected. The Hungry Valley OHV area for example, home to trails of various difficulty, stretches from Gorman to Piru to a lot of other fun places to ride.
About Hungry Valley – Hungry Valley is part of the Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation program run by the California State Parks service. It features 19,000 acres of designated land with over 130 miles perfect for dirt bikes, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), dune buggies, and 4×4 recreation. You’ll want to tune your ATVs engine for the 3000 – 6000 foot elevation level and if you plan on staying the night you may want to call in advance. Camping is relatively cheap at just $10.00 per night (2009 fee schedule) so multi-day trips to the Valley are much cheaper than a family trip to Disney Land.

Important Information about permits – All vehicles operated off-highway on public lands in California are required to be (1) street-licensed or (2) registered as an off-highway vehicle (OHV). Green stickers are issued for all California OHVs year model 2002 and older, including those that were previously issued a red sticker, and to 2003 and newer complying vehicles. Green stickers are issued to OHVs for year round use at all California OHV riding areas. Access is currently $50 per year ($30 if from out of state)
Red stickers are issued to 2003 year model and newer OHVs that are not certified to California OHV emission standards. If your OHV has a “3″ or “C” in the eighth position of the vehicle identification number (VIN) then your vehicle will be issued a red sticker. Red stickers are issued to OHVs that can use California OHV riding areas for seasonal use only. If your ATV has a red sticker the Valley is closed to you from May 1st to September 30th, only green stickered vehicles have access year-round.
